The three section staff, known as the Sanjiegun in Chinese or Sansetsukon
in Japanese, is a flail weapon made of three wood sections connected by chain or rope.
The three section
staff below is a Cocobolo Sectional Staff. Each segment is 24 inches long and it has the 7 chain link connectors. The staff
has a base coat of Shellac and is then finished with high gloss Lacquer.
How to size your Three Section Staff
For best fit, each of the three sticks should be about the length of your arm and have a diameter that when folded easily
fits in the hand. The total length of the three sectional staff should be greater than that of the short single staff known
as a Bo in Japanese and about the same as the Chinese Staff.
The
Three Section Staff made by Woodall's Custom Workshop is one inch in diameter and is made to the length specified by you.
You can choose rope or chain link as the connector.
If you
decide to use chain link, you can also specify the number of chain links between each section of the Three Section Staff.
You can choose from three chain links to eleven chain links. Most users find that five chain links or seven chain links work
best.
If you decide to use rope, simply specify the length of rope
between each segment.
Below are photos of two Three Section Staffs.
The first one below is
a Brazilian Cherry Three Section Staff. Each wood segment is 20 inches long and the Paracord rope connecting them is Olive
Drab and is made using our special "Four Rope" option. This Four Rope option is recommended for staffs which are
heavier than normal.
The extra rope really gives the staff a secure feeling that the normal two rope option doesn't
just seem to have. The rope length is equivalent to 7 chain links which is 4.70" in length. The finish on this staff
is gloss Lacquer.
The staff below is a Black Walnut
Three Section Staff. Each wood segment is 20 inches long and the Paracord rope connecting them is Black Paracord. The rope
style is our standard "Two Rope" option. Since Black Walnut is a light wood, the Two Rope option will work.
The rope length is equivalent to 7 chain links which is 4.70" in length. The finish on this staff is gloss Lacquer.
